Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 7 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the convocation of Assam Forest Protection Corps constables held at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon on Wednesday.
During the convocation held at the parade ground of Dergaon Police Training College, a total of 940 constables, including 90 girls and 850 boys, were recruited.

During his address, Sarma said that he was happy to attend the convocation of the newly appointed soldiers. The rigorous training enabled the soldiers of the Assam Forest Protection Corps to face the challenges during their work.
“To protect these forests and wildlife, we need more forest protection corps. As forests are located in interstate border areas, they will also have to shoulder the responsibility as border guards,” he said.
Thanking Assam Police for the action taken against the corrupt officials of the Public Service Commission, Sarma asked those who oppose the transparent recruitment process to accept today’s scenario by leaving politics aside.
“Getting a job without a bribe is an achievement of this government that people will always remember,” he said.
Referring to the recruitments from 2001 to 2014 being opened only for a particular community, he said that they had succeeded in moving one step forward towards the security of Assam’s future, forest protection, caste, land, and border protection.
He further informed that the recruitment process of Assam Police would start in October for recruitment in jobs in villages and cities.
He also announced the development of the Police Academy at the national level and the appointment of 600 more soldiers in the Forest Protection Corps by next year and stated that the younger generation will also be able to join it.
He also announced the provision of ACPS facilities and said that there is a need for a five-star hotel in Kaziranga to bring luxury tourists there.
He further mentioned that in that situation, the tourism industry cannot move forward and said, “The place where we have planned to open the hotel is at a distance of one kilometer from the boundary of Kaziranga National Park. There are five-star hotels around all the parks in India.”
Speaking in the context of the flood problem in Guwahati, Sarma said, “The drains of the metropolis cannot drain water so fast; then, in this situation, there may be a problem of artificial flooding on one or two days in a year. 25 per cent of the total rainfall of the year has happened in the last two days. The main reason for the water coming from Meghalaya is the University of Science and Technology (USTM). They have established the university by encircling a mountain and cutting on it. During the establishment of this university, there was a need to oppose the Assam government. Along with this, a DPS was also established, taking advantage of the geographical advantage near Guwahati by cutting the mountains. I will talk to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya about this.”
Mentioning that arrangements had been made to take the water coming from the mountains to Dipor Bil or Silsako Lake, he said that the present government does not have enough funds.
In the context of the coup in Bangladesh, he said, “The incident in Bangladesh has worried our state. Before the Sheikh Hasina government came to power, Assam as well as the northeastern states remained a safe place for the militant organisations. In the last 15 years, the northeastern states of India became safe for the Bangladesh government. I hope that Modi will try to maintain this situation by talking to the new government of Bangladesh. News of atrocities in Hindu temples, including the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh, is being circulated on social media. But nothing can be said until a formal announcement is made. I am afraid that if Hindus become a minority in Assam by the year 2041, a situation like Bangladesh will arise. I have been worrying about all these issues for the last three days.”
He also said that the appointment of the Assam LP UP teacher would be done based on merit on May 10. At the same time, about the VGR lands of Karbi Anglong, he said that the Assam government is with the Karbi Autonomous Governing Council.
During the event, the constables of the Forest Protection Corps thanked Sarma, reiterating their pledge to perform their duties with loyalty and honesty in the interest of the country. After the oath-taking ceremony of the constables of the Corps, Sarma greeted the soldiers.
Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Chief Forest Conservator of the state MK Yadav, and Director General of Assam Police GP Singh were also present at the ceremony. (ANI)
