Davanagere (Karnataka) [India], May 27 (ANI): Days after a mob attacked the Channagiri police station in the Davanagere district, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday said that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.
Speaking to reporters at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, he said, “Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an enquiry into the attack on the police station in Channagiri. The investigation is on and the culprits will be brought to book at any cost.”
“Congress party treats people of all sects equally, but no one can take the law into their own hands. The government is committed to punish the culprits, he said.”
This comes after a police station was vandalised in Channagiri town in the Davangere district and several vehicles were damaged by a violent mob on May 24. At least 11 police personnel were injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, police said they have arrested 25 people in connection with a mob attack on the police station, personnel and properties.
The accused have been booked under sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 307 (Attempt to murder) of IPC, and the suspects have been remanded in judicial custody.

Asked about the progress of the SIT in Prajwal Revanna’s case, he said, “I would not like to comment on this. The State government can take any action within the country but the Centre has to be more proactive in cases where the accused is abroad. The Home Minister is overseeing the case.”
Asked if he was visiting New Delhi to finalise the Legislative Council candidates, he said he would be travelling to Delhi. (ANI)
