Dibrugarh (Assam) [India], June 20 (ANI): The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday arrived in Dibrugarh for the first time after getting reappointed in the Union Cabinet by the Prime Minister and said that the Centre is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people and elevating the all-round development of Assam by reviving the heritage of Dibrugarh.
He was welcomed by thousands of supporters from his home constituency which he won convincingly in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Sonowal was warmly greeted by people from various castes, tribes, and areas with enthusiastic cheers. Sonowal also attended a reception party organised at the India Club in the city by MLA of Dibrugarh, Prashanta Phukan where leading citizens of the city along with people from all walks of life extended their greetings to Sarbananda Sonowal.
Expressing his deep gratitude, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “I am truly overwhelmed by the unprecedented love and support from the people of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency that helped me win. I will never forget this affection. Dibrugarh is my birthplace and my place of work. I am determined to continue working diligently as both a native and an MP from Dibrugarh.”
Speaking further, Sarbananda Sonowal added, “Assam played a crucial role in the historic victory of the BJP-led NDA in the last Lok Sabha elections. I humbly serve at the feet of the people, who enabled my victory from the holy land of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency by a huge margin. I express my deepest gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, JP Nadda, for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation once again and for guiding me at every step”.
Sonowal expressed gratitude towards the Former MP from Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency as well as former Union Minister of State along with all the ministers of the Assam. He also appreciated the efforts made by his colleagues and well-wishers of Dibrugarh LSC for their unwavering support, love, and blessings.

Sarbananda Sonowal told that the real transformation of Dibrugarh has began only after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, and Bhartiya Janta Party came into power in Assam in 2016.
“Today, this area is thriving. The youth here are finding various employment opportunities, farmers and the poor have gained their due status and equal development, and women have become stronger. Over the last ten years, all the Khilonjiya communities in this constituency have been socially and economically empowered”, he said.
While addressing the supporters he said “The unprecedented change brought by the BJP’s double engine government is evident before your eyes. You have also witnessed a rapid transformation in Assam and the North-East over the past decade”.
Sonowal said that Assam has emerged from a long period of darkness under the BJP government. He further said that northeastern India has gained new confidence and strength under the strong leadership of Modi.
“People across the region now realize that the BJP is the only party that can change their fortunes. The BJP led Govts at centre and state has always given top priority for the all round development of Assam and the Northeast”, he added. (ANI)
