New Delhi [India], October 9 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an accused Enforcement Officer of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Jalgaon for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant, the CBI said in a press release.
A case was registered by CBI on October 8, 2024, against the accused Enforcement Officer of EPFO, on allegations that the labour supply firm of the complainant’s father which he was looking after, received an email from Regional Head, DO Jalgaon (EPFO) on July 31, 2024 informing that Audit Officer was going to conduct audit of their firm between July 31, 2024, and August 2, 2024. During the audit, said Audit Officer allegedly informed the complainant that the firm had defaulted in the payment of PF for the month of March 2023 which came around Rs. 2 lakhs.
It was further alleged that the said accused thereafter contacted the complainant telephonically and demanded undue advantage of Rs. 50,000 for settlement of PF dues of the firm. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant. Later, the accused was arrested.
Searches were conducted by CBI at the residential and official premises of the accused person at Jalgaon and Nashik which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
