New Delhi [India], April 18 (ANI): Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Friday slammed the centre and West Bengal government for the Murshidabad violence.
His criticism came in the wake of violence following protests over the Waqf (amendment) Act in the State. Expressing pain, Tiwari accused both the centre and the state of failing to maintain law and order in Murshidabad, resulting in an exodus of families.
Speaking to ANI, Tiwari said, “I am in pain with what happened in Murshidabad. The victims should get justice. The exodus should stop.”
Pointed out the involvement of cross-border Bangladesh infiltrators; he said,” If something has been conspired in Bangladesh, then both the central and state governments are responsible.”
Criticising the government in power, Tiwari said that both the central and state governments had failed to stop a foreign conspiracy and protect the borders.
“If law and order collapsed, then the state could not manage it. I think both the centre and state) are at fault. The situation should be normal as soon as possible, and justice should prevail…”, he added.
A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived in West Bengal’s Malda on Friday. The team is scheduled to visit the violence-hit areas of Murshidabad and Malda following protests over the Waqf Amendment Act in the state earlier in the month.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose arrived at Sealdah Railway Station on Friday and boarded a train to Malda to visit areas affected by recent violence.
After reaching Malda, the Governor is scheduled to proceed to the Circuit House, from where he will visit the locations impacted by the violence in the district. Following his inspection in Malda, Governor Bose will be travelling to Murshidabad to assess the situation in that district as well.
On April 11, during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which resulted in the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and widespread property damage. Several families have been displaced, with many migrating to Jharkhand’s Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda.
On Thursday, the Calcutta High Court stated that central forces will remain in Murshidabad for some time to maintain law and order and said that the court will monitor the restoration and rehabilitation of victims.
The court also ordered officials from the BJP, TMC, and others not to make provocative speeches that could escalate tensions. (ANI)
