BJP needs to stop its “negative politics”, release “Delhi’s share of water”: AAP – World News Network

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): As the water crisis continues to persist in the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused the BJP government in Haryana of negative politics and asked the party-led Haryana government to release Delhi’s share of water.
AAP national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the Himachal Pradesh government is ready to release water for Delhi and the Haryana government has just to allow that water to flow into Delhi.
“The BJP needs to stop its negative politics and release Delhi’s share of water. The Supreme Court has also said that the Himachal Pradesh government is ready to give 137 cusecs of water to Delhi. Haryana has to only allow that water to flow from the Hathni Kund barrage to the Wazirabad barrage in Delhi,” Kakkar told ANI.
“The Haryana government also reduced 200 cusecs of the 1,050 cusecs of water that come to Delhi from another channel,” she added.
She also slammed Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, saying that he could have acted as a “negotiator” to solve the water crisis.
“Delhi LG should leave politics aside, as he is not accountable to the BJP headquarters. His accountability is towards the people of Delhi. If he had wanted, he could have worked as a negotiator. Today, there will be a protest in front of Haryana Bhawan and all the senior leaders of the party will participate,” she said.
Earlier on Sunday, Delhi Water Minister Atishi wrote to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, saying the capital was facing a major water crisis and urged him to ensure that 1,050 cusecs of water are released in the Yamuna river through the Munak canal.
“I am writing this letter to seek your urgent intervention on the issue of non-release of water into the Yamuna River by Haryana. I have sent several correspondences to your good self, unfortunately, I have not received even an acknowledgement for the same,” Atishi stated.
“As you are aware, Delhi is dependent on water from Yamuna for our day-to-day needs. However, for the past few days, Haryana has not been releasing an adequate amount of water in the Munak Canal. As a result of this, the people living in the national capital have been suffering unjustifiably,” she added in the letter.
The Delhi Minister had also sought time from Delhi LG VK Saxena for an emergency meeting to apprise him of the “inadequate water” being released by the Haryana government from the Munak Canal.
Meanwhile, residents of Delhi continue to face severe water crises as long lines of people around water tankers are seen in many areas of the national capital.
With piped water being disrupted, in several areas of the city water is being supplied to the people through tankers. (ANI)
