New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): After the Centre asked the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to cancel the latest advertisement for lateral entry into the bureaucracy, author and journalist, Professor Dilip Mandal, on Tuesday highlighted the importance of this move, emphasizing its alignment with the government’s broader social justice agenda.
“The government has taken a very important decision today, which was later endorsed by the UPSC–that the experts who will be brought in through lateral entry will continue, but a part of social justice will be introduced in it. It’s a 70-year-old agenda that is now being fulfilled by PM Modi,” Professor Mandal stated.
He further elaborated on the current administration’s role in advancing social justice, citing several key initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“A series of such things are there that should have happened earlier, but it might be a coincidence or a responsibility of history on PM Modi that he has to do maximum works of social justice in these 10 years. OBC Commission was formed in 1983 but without tooth or nail, it got the constitutional status when PM Modi came to power,” Mandal said.
Mandal also praised the government’s efforts in developing important sites related to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar into Panchtirtha and implementing policies that ensure benefits reach all sections of society, including SCs and STs.
“Even bringing saturation in the policies so that maximum people get the benefits of the schemes brought is also a characteristic of the Modi government. This idea of saturation is based on universalism and it also helps in avoiding antagonism in society as everyone gets the benefits. It’s a successful idea in India as we have fault lines in society. I think these are the important contributions of PM Modi to Indian politics,” Mandl said.
Earlier today, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reflected the commitment towards Babasaheb’s Constitution through a very important decision.
The Union Minister said that PM Modi has always shown his commitment towards social justice.
“Today, PM Modi has reflected the commitment towards Babasaheb’s Constitution through a very important decision. A decision has been taken to implement principles of reservation in the very transparent method of lateral entry in UPSC. PM Modi has always shown his commitment towards social justice,” he said.
The Department of Personnel and Training Minister, Jitendra Singh wrote to the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission on Tuesday to cancel the lateral entry advertisement related to several lateral entry posts at various levels in the central government as per directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I am writing to you on the important issue of lateral entry into the Government of India. Recently, the UPSC issued an advertisement related to a number of lateral entry posts at various levels in the Central Government. It is well known that, as a principle, lateral entry was endorsed by the Second Administrative Reforms Commission which was constituted in 2005, and chaired by Shri Veerappa Moily. The recommendations of the sixth pay commission in 2013 were also in the same direction. However, both before and after that there have been many high-profile cases of lateral entrants,” the letter said. (ANI)
