Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], July 10 (ANI): Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Shillong. This collaboration aims to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to serving and retired personnel of Assam Rifles and their dependents.
CRC Shillong, a premier institute under the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (Divyangjan), NIEPMD, Chennai, operates under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The MoU was signed in a formal ceremony at the Assam Rifles Headquarters in Shillong by Pushpa Nair, President of the Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association (ARWWA), and Dr. Ram Shakal Sahani, Director of CRC Shillong.
Under the terms of the MoU, CRC Shillong will offer assessment and diagnostic interventions for personnel with disabilities, including physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities, both serving and retired, as well as their dependents. The MoU also includes the development and implementation of training programs for Assam Rifles personnel and their families on disability and rehabilitation issues, benefiting the local population where Assam Rifles operates.
In addition, CRC Shillong will conduct screenings of children below 10 years of age in Assam Rifles-run schools to identify abnormalities or disabilities and suggest remedial measures. Specialized training will be provided to teachers of Assam Rifles Schools in Shillong on managing and educating children with special needs. Lectures will be organised for parents of children with special needs, focusing on core education and rehabilitation.
Furthermore, CRC Shillong will facilitate the rehabilitation of disabled Assam Rifles soldiers, both serving and retired, under the ADIP Scheme as per government norms.
