Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 2 (ANI): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya led the state in paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of the 155th Gandhi Jayanti at Sarania Ashram in the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in Guwahati on Wednesday.
While paying his respects, Governor Acharya said that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of truth and non-violence continue to serve as a source of inspiration for generations.
The Governor also said that Gandhi ji’s pursuits of cleanliness, women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and farmers’ rights, as well as his stance against untouchability, social discrimination, and illiteracy, have left an indelible mark on the nation.
Referring to Gandhi ji’s vision of empowering people living at the grassroots, the Governor hailed the State government for launching ‘Orunodoi 3.0’ and said that the scheme has the potential of lending capacity and dignity to all women, including the underprivileged.
He said that the scheme is a pioneering initiative benefiting lakhs of people in the state and elevating their socio-economic status.
The Assam governor also said that visiting the Sarania Ashram is like a pilgrimage for him. He moreover said that the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi ji on January 9, 1946, where he spent three days, serves as a poignant reminder of India’s rich heritage.
“It’s preservation is a collective responsibility requiring active citizen participation”, added the Governor.
He also called upon the present generation to follow Gandhi ji’s teachings.
Governor Acharya also planted a sapling on the premises of the ashram on the occasion.
It may be noted that in another programme held at Raj Bhavan, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, along with the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, paid floral tributes to Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, administered the non-violence pledge on the occasion.
On the other hand, the Assam Governor inaugurated the first public screening of a documentary “Adi Shakti Maa Kamakhya Devi” at Aideo Cinema Theatre in Panjabari in Guwahati today.
It may be noted that directed by Pradip Chandra Sarma, the film features the spiritual and cultural significance of Maa Kamakhya Devi and seeks to inspire the viewers with the timeless essence of the spiritual legacy of Assam.
Sharing his views on the occasion, Governor Acharya highlighted India’s diversity and how for centuries together, the abode of Maa Kamakhya on the Nilachal Hill has been fostering unity among the devotees belonging to different areas of the nation.
He also termed the Kamakhya Temple as a symbol of Indian culture, spirituality, and its rich history.
Giving a brief snapshot, the Governor highlighted how the government is taking initiatives to promote cultural nationalism and develop the country’s cultural heritage. (ANI)
