Kaziranga (Assam) [India], October 5 (ANI): Assam Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary announced that Kuwari, the elephant of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, has given birth to a “healthy female calf”. The newborn has been named “Mayabini” symbolising hope and harmony in the wild.
In a post shared on X, Patowary said, “Heartening news on #WorldAnimalDay — Kuwari, the elephant of @kaziranga_ has given birth to a healthy female calf! With immense affection and public goodwill, we’ve named her “MAYABINI” — a symbol of new life, hope, and harmony in the wild.”
The minister also shared a video on the occasion of the World Animal Day.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, where he went on a jeep safari and lauded its exemplary wildlife by saying, “Kaziranga is very rich, especially in terms of rhinos.”
During his visit, Yadav highlighted the growing wildlife initiatives in Madhya Pradesh, particularly the recent reintroduction of elephants in the state. “Elephants have now arrived in Madhya Pradesh as well. Previously, there were no elephants. For the past two years, over 70 elephants have been relocated to Bandhavgarh and other sanctuaries,” he said to reporters.
Impressed by Kaziranga’s management, the Chief Minister expressed his intent to collaborate with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to enhance wildlife conservation and exchange best practices between the two states.
“I visited here with my officials and was delighted to see it. The management is excellent. We will learn many things from here. We will also bring some of our wildlife here. I will speak to the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, regarding this,” Yadav said.
Speaking about Kaziranga’s unique ecosystem, he said, “Kaziranga is very rich, especially in terms of rhinos. There are more than 3,000 rhinos here.”
World Animal Day is observed annually on October 4 to raise awareness about improving animal welfare, protecting endangered species, promoting responsible pet ownership, and fostering compassion for all living beings. The day also honours the legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
According to the official website, the mission of World Animal Day is “to raise the status of animals to improve welfare standards around the globe.” It serves as a global call to action for individuals and organisations to engage in advocacy, conservation, and initiatives that support animal rights and well-being.
