Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 11 (ANI): To strengthen the party organisation and to discuss the upcoming bye-elections for five assembly constituencies and panchayat polls in the state, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will hold crucial party leaders and workers’ meeting in the first week of September.
“Today, we have thoroughly discussed various issues in the presence of AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh, party MPs and other senior leaders at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati. We have decided to hold a party workers meeting in the first week of September in Charaideo district to discuss upcoming bye-elections, panchayat polls and the elections of various autonomous councils,” Bhupen Kumar Borah, APCC president, said.
He further said that, to strengthen the party, they have taken various initiatives.
On the other hand, talking about the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls for two seats in Assam, the APCC president said that, at present, they don’t have enough MLAs in the state assembly to win the Rajya Sabha election.
“If anyone will come and desire to contest in the Rajya Sabha polls, then we may think about this. But as of now, no one has come forward,” Bhupen Kumar Borah said.
Meanwhile, Assam State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita told ANI that, BJP will field its own candidates for both Rajya Sabha seats and NDA partner parties will help the BJP win both seats.
Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and UPPL are currently the ally partners of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government. (ANI)
