Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 14 (ANI): The Assam Congress on Saturday issued show cause notice to five senior party members, including three sitting MLAs, over engaging in anti-party activities during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to an official release, the newly constituted Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC Assam PCC) of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee received 56 complaints from different sources, including individual applicants and from contesting candidates in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The DAC, headed by Chairman Nripendra Thakuria, Vice-President APCC, Co-Chairman Bobbeeta Sharma, Vice-President APCC and Member-Secretary Advocate Shirazul Hussain Saikia, held several rounds of discussions, interactions and hearings with grassroots party workers and leaders about the omission and commission of anti-party activities during the last Lok Sabha elections, 2024.
The Committee received complaints from Goalpara, Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Tinusukia, Barpeta, and Kokrajhar districts, among others.
The DAC Assam PCC, after thorough investigation and careful consideration, decided to issue show cause notice to MLAs, Abdur Rashid Mondol, Rekibuddin Ahmed and Bharat Chandra Narah.
Along with this, Mira Barthakur, President of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress and Samsuddin Barlaskar, President of the Hailakandi district Congress Committee, have also been served notice.
“The above mentioned have been given seven days’ time to respond accordingly,” the release said. (ANI)
