Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 18 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed shock and concern over the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident that occurred in Uttar Pradesh today.
The incident has prompted immediate action with emergency response teams prepared to offer assistance as needed.
Expressing shock over the Dibrugarh express accident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Shocked to learn about the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train accident in UP today. I am monitoring the situation closely. No casualties from Assam reported as of now. Teams are on standby for support. We will do our best to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.”
North Eastern Railway CPRO Pankaj Singh confirmed that till now two people have lost their lives in the incident while seven others are injured.
“The train got derailed between Motiganj and Dhilai… 7 people were injured out of which 6 people suffered minor injuries, and 2 people died… Our priority is to complete the rescue operation at the earliest so that trains start plying on the route again… A helpline number has been established. A special train will be run for the passengers of this train to take them to their destination… The railway team has reached the spot to work on the restoration of the railway track”.
Menwhile, Gonda MP Kirti Vardhan Singh also paid a visit to those injured in the accident, ensuring full support for the victims.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train (15904) derailment in Gonda, resulting in loss of lives. Being the Member of Parliament of Gonda ,I visited the injured at the earliest possible opportunity and oversaw relief operations,” Sngh wrote on X, expressing grief over the accident.
Two people died and at least seven sustained injuries after some coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Jhilahi Railway Station in Gonda, officials said.
Uttar Pradesh’s Relief Commissioner informed on X that one NDRF team each was sent from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda. (ANI)
