The Netflix film by Anvita Dutta seems to be underwritten and over directed. However, the film was visually striking. But it is a disaster in Netflix from the debut director. Bulbul somehow feels very artificial in the way it is presented. As an industry, Bollywood is not capable enough to produce good horror movies. The horror movies in Bollywood are always linked with love, romance, and family consequences of injustice. So for Bulbul, it could not portray well the whole gothic horror environment.
ANUSHKA SHARMA’S NETFLIX IS A FLAWED FAIRY TALE
The characters in the film are established well, but after that, suddenly, the film jumps into the future. However, the link in between got broken due to the sudden jump. The script of the film could not bring the actual effect required for a gothic horror movie. The movie could not focus on the main event for its surrounding effect. The film was treated like the first horror movie in Bollywood so far. The behavior of the demon-woman is portrayed as more likely to be a vampire. Every character in the film used Hindi as the language, not even the local term of “chuddail” came into the highlight.
Everybody could make two plus two four. It doesn’t need to be a genius for that. But the movie treats its audience to be unknown about the horror movie. The film somewhat surprises with its careless script and character makeover. The film is moreover forced to focus on technical details but not the screenplay and character. The film comes with a lazy background with an immature direction, making the disaster with the whole movie. The dialogue of the movie will surely roll your eyes. Rather it could be Netflix’s first Bengali original, which could adequately justify such a script.
