Anakapalle (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 17 (ANI): One worker died and several others sustained injuries after a massive fire broke out at Vasantha Chemicals in Atchutapuram village of Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh.
The incident took place after a chemical reactor exploded while a staff member, Pradeep Raut, was cleaning it.
The explosion led to a fire, prompting fire tenders to rush to the scene. The injured worker was immediately taken to the hospital but he died while receiving treatment, said the Anakapalle District Collector, Vijaya Krishnan.
“A contract worker named Pradeep Raut sustained injuries and was shifted to the hospital immediately. However, he died while receiving treatment,” said District Collector Krishnan.
Krishnan further mentioned that the rupture disc and safety relief valve of the autoclave were opened, leading to a fire near the autoclave. The fire was controlled within 20 minutes.
Earlier, in a separate incident, a fire broke out near the Tirumala Paruveta Mandapam in the Tirupati district.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident, officials said.
The fire, which broke out in the Sri Ghandam area, spread rapidly, according to officials.
The firefighters reached the spot as soon as they received word about the incident and went about dousing the flames.
The authorities also issued a warning for the local wildlife, officials said, adding that the fire could have been the result of an intense heatwave currently sweeping the state. (ANI)
