New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Ministers of Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram as these states continue to grapple with the natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal.
He also briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation there in the aftermath of the cyclone.
The Home Minister took detailed information about the situation in all the five north-east states during his separate in separate telephonic conversations with respective Chief Ministers.
The Home Minister assured the Chief Ministers of all possible help from the Central government.
The Home Minister expressed deep concern about the aftermath of cyclone Remal in a social media post on X.
“Deeply concerned about the natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. Also briefed PM Shri @narendramodi Ji on the situation, who expressed solidarity with those affected. Spoke to the respective state Chief Ministers, took stock of the situation, and assured them of all possible help. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured for a speedy recovery. The situation is being closely monitored and authorities are providing all possible assistance to the affected,” Shah posted on ‘X’.
Over three dozen people have lost their lives and more than two lakh have been affected across the northeastern states following flash floods, heavy rains, and landslides caused by Cyclone Remal over the past four days.
Continuous rainfall and landslides have isolated parts of the northeast, submerging railway tracks under floodwaters. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has cancelled express, passenger, and goods trains bound for south Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram since Tuesday due to the inundation of railway tracks throughout the region.
On Thursday, a section of National Highway 6, which connects Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram also collapsed after the landslide. (ANI)
