Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 7 (ANI): Actor turned politician Vijay expressed condolences on the demise of 5 people at the Marina Beach due to excessive heat during the Air show by the Indian Air Force in Chennai.
In a post on X he said, “The incident in which 5 people lost their lives during an air show program organized by the Indian Air Force at the Marina beach in Chennai is a painful. My deepest condolences to their families. During the event, people said in the media that the government did not pay enough attention to basic facilities, transport facilities and security, etc., and expressed their anguish. I request the Tamil Nadu government to focus on effective implementation of facilities and security for basic and essential needs in places where people gather in large numbers.”
Meanwhile, Chennai Mayor, Priya said that the deaths occurred due to weather conditions and nothing went wrong from the department’s side.
The Chennai Mayor said, “All the measures were taken by Tamil Nadu govt. Due to some mistakes, there were 5 deaths. 15 lakh people had participated in the event. As it is hot & humid in Chennai, some people got dehydrated and fainted there. The Metro department supplied water and ambulances were provided by the state govt. Chennai Corporation made proper arrangement to put up barricades. Heat is the cause of the deaths. Nothing went wrong from the department’s side or IAF, it was only the climate.”
Earlier Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Monday confirmed that five people had lost their lives due to the after effects of excessive heat during the Air Force Air show at the Marina Beach in Chennai on Sunday.
“Five people died, all 5 deaths were due to high temperature. A total of 102 people were affected by the soaring heat, with 93 initially requiring hospitalization. 5 people were brought in dead, 2 at Omandurar General Hospital, 2 at Royapet General Hospital, and 1 at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital,” Ma Subramanian said.
“Fortunately, the situation has improved, with only 7 remaining inpatients as of now. 4 at Omandurar Hospital, 2 at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, and 1 at Royapet Hospital,” the minister added.
The Health Minister also noted that precautionary measures had been communicated in advance of the event.
“IAF already informed about precautions which has to be taken while coming for show with umbrella and water bottle,” he added.
The Indian Air Force on Sunday organised an Air Show at Chennai’s Marina Beach ahead of the upcoming 92nd Air Force Day on October 8. (ANI)
