New Delhi [India], March 19 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav on Wednesday said that stringent action will be taken against the accused involved in inciting violence in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.
Responding to the FIR against people from Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Nagpur violence, Yadav said, “There will be action against people who incited riots.”
The Maharashtra police in Nagpur have registered FIRs against office-bearers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during their protest demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad).
Meanwhile, 50 individuals have been detained, and a curfew remains in effect for the second consecutive day across ten police district areas in Nagpur following violent clashes that erupted on March 17, police said.
Speaking to ANI, DCP Rahul Maknikar says, “The situation is under control. The investigation is underway. We have formed 10 teams. We have detained 50 people so far.”
Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) has remanded 19 accused in the Nagpur violence case to police custody till March 21. Yesterday, the Ganeshpeth police produced the accused before the court.
Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, has condemned the recent violence in Nagpur and stated that it is a very serious matter.
Additionally, Kadam said that ongoing actions against illegal Bangladeshi intruders in Maharashtra will be intensified.
Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav also called for the banning of Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), labelling their members as “hooligans” in the wake of recent violence in Nagpur.
Speaking about the violence, Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav said, “People from Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad are hooligans; they should be banned. These people are protected by the government. I believe that the country’s economy and progress are being affected now. There is a need to think on this now.”
Curfew is still in place for the second consecutive day in 10 police station limits of Nagpur following violent clashes that erupted on March 17.
Pertinently an FIR has also been lodged under the multiple sections from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 along with other laws such as the Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Prevention of Public Property Damage Act at the Ganeshpath Police Station.
Police Inspector Jitendra Baburao Gadge filed the complaint, and the FIR named 51 individuals, including several minors.
The accused are primarily from Nagpur city, residing in areas like Jafar Nagar, Tajbagh, Mominpura, and Bhalaadapura.
The police have been authorised to close roads in affected areas to maintain law and order. Anyone violating the curfew “remains punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).”
On Sunita William’s safe return to Earth, Yadav said, “Congratulations to the NASA team and Elon Musk’s SpaceX team. India was worried about Sunita William, who is of Indian origin.” (ANI)
