New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): Accusing the Haryana government of not releasing Delhi’s water share even after “so many talks,” Delhi minister Atishi on Tuesday said that if the water supply does not improve in the coming 1-2 days, then “we will move to Supreme Court also.”
The water minister also urged the people to use water judiciously or the government will be forced to rationalise the water supply in the national capital.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi said, “We are speaking to the Haryana government continuously. But the Haryana government is not releasing water, even after so many talks… If the water supply does not improve in the coming 1-2 days, then we will move to court. We will also go to the Supreme Court. If the water level keeps on decreasing in this acute heatwave, then Delhi might face a huge problem.”
Amid the water shortage in the city, the minister appealed to people to use water rationally.
“I appeal to all Delhites, whether your area has water shortage or not, please use water supply rationally… Whoever is getting sufficient water, should not use it wastefully. I appeal to everyone to not wash their cars with open pipes… please make sure water is not wasted … Delhi is going through an acute heatwave and Haryana is releasing very little amount of water in Delhi,” she said.
She also warned that if people do not heed this appeal, the government may have to impose fines for the excess use of water in the coming days.
“If this public appeal is not effective, then we may have to introduce a fine for excess use of water,” she said.
Highlighting the steps that will be taken to curb the water shortage in the national capital, she said, “In the last one week, there has been water crisis in many areas of Delhi… We have taken various steps but because the water level is decreasing constantly, we have to take more steps. The areas which get a water supply for two times will be reduced to once… We are in an adverse condition where Delhi’s water supply is being halted by Haryana.” (ANI)
