Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 11 (ANI): Veteran actor Raza Murad has reacted to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on the show ‘India’s Got Latent,’ hosted by comedian Samay Raina. Calling it an act which was done for “fame”, he said that it has left everyone in “shock”.
The controversy began when Allahbadia, known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, made offensive remarks during a recent episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Speaking to ANI, Murad said, “To what extent can one stoop for fame? There are comedians like Johny Lever, the late Raju Srivastav, Kapil Sharma, did they ever use any abusive language? Rather, they are the most famous comedians. You (Ranveer Allahabadia) talk about barging into your parents’ bedroom?… The whole country is shocked… “
Targetting the show, he added, “We are also to some extent guilty that we are tolerating such a show in which abusive language is openly used… Thankfully people took notice of it and action was taken against it…”
The ‘Prem Rog’ actor continued, “The society we live in considers parents as God and just to gain some attention, you talk about barging into their bedroom and using obscene words about them… What happened is against the law of the country, if you have been given freedom of speech, you cannot abuse anyone, spread obscenity, or defame anyone’s character, and that too your mother’s… Such shows should be banned… We will abide by the court’s decision.”
Following the uproar, Allahbadia issued a public apology. In a video shared on his X account, he acknowledged that his comments were inappropriate and insensitive.
He admitted that the remark was not only inappropriate but also lacked humour. Allahbadia also said that comedy was not his forte, expressing regret over his lapse in judgment.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry,” Allahbadia said.
He also addressed concerns about his influence on younger audiences, promising to use his platform more responsibly in the future. “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect,” he added.
Allahbadia further requested that the producers of ‘India’s Got Latent’ remove the “insensitive sections” from the episode in which his comments were made.
“I have asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections from the video. All I can say in the end is sorry, I hope you can forgive me as a human being,” he concluded.
In a recent development, National Commission for Women has summoned Youtuber Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina and others over “derogratory and racist” remarks made by them on ‘India Got Latent’ show. The hearing is scheduled for February 17 at the NCW office in New Delhi.
The Commission has taken serious note of the vulgar and offensive remarks made by content creators such as Ranveer Allahabadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, as well as the show’s producers, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra, NCW said in a release.
These comments, which have sparked widespread public outrage, violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect. In light of this concern, under the instructions of NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, a hearing has been scheduled to address the controversial remark made by the content creators on India’s Got Latent, NCW added.
Earlier, The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded an “immediate ban” on the show along with legal action against those involved.
In a press release shared on Monday evening, AICWA stated that Allahbadia’s comments were offensive and went against “societal and family values.” The association also urged the Indian film industry to “boycott” and “cease any collaboration with individuals” involved in the show.
Earlier today, a team of Mumbai Police reached the residence of YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, following the controversy surrounding his comments on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
The police visit comes after a complaint was filed against Allahbadia and other individuals involved in the show. The situation has sparked significant backlash, with calls for legal action and a ban on the show.
After the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy, Ashish Chanchlani’s lawyer also arrived at the Khar Police Station in Mumbai. The studio where the show is filmed is within the jurisdiction of Khar Police Station. Therefore, Ashish’s lawyer visited the police station.
On Monday, a lawyer filed a formal complaint against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina (host of the show), and the organizers of ‘India’s Got Latent’.
According to Mumbai Police sources, the complaint is in response to the inappropriate language used on the show, which was deemed offensive by several viewers. (ANI)
