New Delhi [India], January 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh on Friday took a dig at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, saying that the people of Delhi have decided that they want to get rid of “AAP-DA (tragedy)”.
He said that Kejriwal didn’t remember to write a letter in the last 10 years, but he was thinking about the metro when people in Delhi decided to throw him out of power.
“Ab pachtave ka hot, jab chidiya chug gayi khet (Don’t cry over spilt milk). The people have decided that they want to get rid of AAP-DA. You (Kejriwal) have been in power for 10 years. Did you write even a single letter in that time?” Chugh told ANI.
He further said that those who hindered the works for the regional rapid transit system are not shedding “crocodile tears”.
“You should have given a discount for the bus services. People have decided to give you a retirement party…the people of Delhi are shouting and telling you ‘Bye-bye Kejriwal’. In the last 10 years, not a single university or school has been built… Now he has remembered the metro. Supreme Court scolded Kejriwal four times over the issue of the regional rapid transit system. Those who hindered the works for the transit system are shedding crocodile tears now,” Chugh said.
His reaction comes after Kejriwal on Friday morning wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposing that a 50 per cent concession must be given to students who commute in Delhi Metro.
“To reduce the financial burden on students, I propose to give 50 per cent concession to students in Delhi Metro,” the letter read.
Both the Centre and Delhi government have a stake in Delhi Metro and both should bear the expenses incurred from this, Kejriwal said in the letter, adding, “We are planning free bus travel for students from our side.”
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit on Friday, criticised Kejriwal’s proposal for a 50% metro concession in Delhi Metro, calling it an “irresponsible” move. He, in a statement, questioned why AAP had not implemented the 50% concession themselves, despite previously making similar promises.
This comes ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held on February 5. The counting of votes will take place on February 8. The ruling AAP has already announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for 59 seats.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
A three-way contest is on the cards in Delhi between the ruling AAP, BJP and Congress. Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got eight seats. (ANI)
