New Delhi [India], January 12 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mohinder Goyal on Saturday denied any involvement in the creation of fake Aadhaar cards and termed the allegations as “politically motivated”.
“They said that this is a matter of making (Aadhar) cards for Bangladeshis. Whereas nothing like this has been done from my side to date. This is only politically motivated. We neither do any wrong nor are we in favour of any wrongdoing… all this is politically motivated. And I think our local candidates have some hand in this,” Goyal told ANI.
Mohinder Goyal represents the Delhi’s Rithala Assembly constituency.
This comes after Delhi Police issued a notice to the AAP MLA and his office staff to join the investigation in a case involving fake Aadhaar card documents, in which several Bangladeshis were arrested, and fake Aadhaar cards were recovered during the investigation, according to Delhi Police sources.
However, AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal said that he has not received any notice yet.
“I have come to know that two officials of Delhi Police came to my house to give me a notice around 5 pm,” he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue of alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators and accused the AAP government of garnering the support of ‘anti-national’ forces to win the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi.
BJP National Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that a probe into fake voter registrations in the national capital has revealed that votes of Bangladeshi infiltrators were being added using fake Aadhar cards.
He further alleged the involvement of two AAP MLAs–Mohinder Goyal and Jai Bhagwan Upkar–of being involved in the “conspiracy.”
“After the scandals involving alcohol and health fraud, a new and dangerous tendency of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is emerging. Investigation into fake votes in Delhi has revealed that votes of Bangladeshi infiltrators are being made by making fake Aadhar cards and signatures of two AAP MLAs–Mohinder Goyal and Jai Bhagwan Upkar have been found in this conspiracy… AAP is taking support from anti-national forces…What is the secret of Arvind Kejriwal’s love for anti-national forces?” Trivedi said.
The issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators has been taking centre stage ahead of the assembly polls, with the BJP alleging AAP of ‘illegally’ settling Bangladeshi nationals in Delhi.
The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5, and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
A three-way contest is on the cards in Delhi as the incumbent AAP vying for a record fourth term is being challenged by both BJP and Congress. (ANI)
