New Delhi [India], January 11 (ANI): Stepping up its attack on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, BJP on Saturday alleged that he is the “kingpin” of the liquor scam and there was a loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the Delhi government.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur presented 10 findings from the CAG report and accused Kejriwal of “deceiving the public”.
He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party government had caused a Rs 2,026-crore loss to the exchequer in Delhi through the liquor scam and asked “why AAP had not presented the report” in the Delhi assembly.
He alleged that AAP had promised to build ‘pathshala,’ “but instead they constructed ‘madhushala.”
“They talked about ‘jhaadu,’ but it led them to ‘Daaru.’ They spoke of ‘Swaraj,’ but it turned into ‘Sharab.’ The journey of the past 10 years of the AAP government is marked by corruption and ‘AAP ka paap.’ There is not just one but multiple scams that have taken place. This is a government whose eight ministers, 15 MLAs, one MP, and even their CM and Deputy CM went to jail. Since Independence, there has been no government that has committed as many sins as AAP has. That is why ‘AAP-da’ must go from power,” the BJP leader alleged.
Referring to findings in the CAG report, he said “finding one reveals a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore while Finding 2 points to deviations from the original objectives of the policy”.
He asked why the CAG report was not tabled in the Delhi assembly despite Delhi Lieutenant Governor writing to Chief Minister Atishi.
He also attacked Kejriwal, accusing him of being silent on the CAG report.
“If you are not afraid, then why don’t you speak on the CAG report? Why don’t you respond? When you were not in politics, you used to shout about the 2G scam and other issues. Where is that Arvind Kejriwal now, who used to make big claims 12 years ago? Where is the one who at that time demanded accountability for Congress’s scams, but today he runs away from answering his own wrongdoings,” he said.
“Today, AAP has no answer to Delhi’s broken roads, dirty water in homes, rising electricity bills, mountains of garbage, and pollution. Today, the people of Delhi want to be free from ‘AAP-da’,” he added.
A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi government’s excise policy revealed a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer.
The report’s findings stated that there were deviations from the objective of the policy, a lack of transparency in pricing, and violations in issuing licenses that were not penalised.
Of the losses worth Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer, the loss of Rs 890 crore resulted from the government’s failure to re-tender the surrendered licenses before the policy period concluded, according to the report. Moreover, exemptions granted to the zonal licenses led to the loss of Rs 941 crore.
“The Department was issuing licenses without checking various requirements relating to Excise Rules and Terms and Conditions for the issue of different types of licenses. It was observed that licenses were issued without ensuring solvency, submission of audited financial statements, submission of data regarding sales and wholesale price declared in other states and across the year, verification of criminal antecedents from the competent authority etc.,” the executive summary of the CAG report read.
