Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], April 6 (ANI): Calling the Congress ‘Nyay Patra’ for the Lok Sabha elections a “people’s manifesto,” former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said that many of the Gehlot government’s schemes have found a place in the party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto.
Speaking to ANI, Ashok Gehlot said that the manifesto is the people’s manifesto and there are 5 Nyay schemes and guarantees.
“Many of our schemes have found a place in the national manifesto, it is a matter of pride for us… Rajasthan came into discussion in every state of the country due to our schemes… We had taken many revolutionary decisions… This time a wonderful manifesto has come in which there are 5 Nyay schemes, and there are guarantees. The manifesto has been framed based on what people want, and hence this is the people’s manifesto,” Gehlot told ANI.
When asked about the alliance, the Congress leader said that in alliance, sometimes “friendly fight suits” like what is happening in Punjab and some other seats happen adding that the INDIA bloc should win instead of the BJP.
“In alliance, sometimes friendly fight suits like what is happening in Punjab and some other seats. It depends on the local circumstances. Ultimately, the INDIA bloc should win instead of the BJP… It has happened in the past as well but those who are leaving Congress don’t get respect, a ticket or even a seat to sit, there in the BJP,” he added.
He further alleged that the people might have to leave the party because of pressure from ED and CBI but Congress is the “ocean” that if one leaves, 50 are there in waiting to “replace” them.
Earlier on Friday, Congress released its 2024 Lok Sabha poll manifesto here on Friday making a slew of promises to various sections of society including a legal guarantee for MSP, 50 per cent reservation for women in government jobs, repealing the Agnipath scheme, doubling GDP in the next ten years, strengthening anti-defection law, restoring status quo ante with China, mobile phones for students from class IX to XII and amending the GST regime.
The ‘Nyay Patra’ was released at the AICC headquarters by the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former president Rahul Gandhi, manifesto committee Chairman P Chidambaram and general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal.
The manifesto promises ‘Paanch Nyay’, based on “five pillars of justices” with 25 guarantees which include, ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Naari Nyay’, ‘Kisaan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’ and ‘Hissedari Nyay’.
Rajasthan will go to the polls in two phases, on April 19 and April 26. Polling for 12 Lok Sabha seats will be held in the first phase on April 19, while the remaining 13 seats will be polled in the second phase on April 26.
The BJP won 24 out of 25 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party won one. (ANI)
