New Delhi [India], October 18 (ANI): After the Supreme Court disposed of the plea against Isha Yoga Centre, Spiritual guru and founder of the Isha Foundation, Sadhguru on Friday welcomed the court decision and said that it is time to learn to use the privileges of Democracy more responsibly.
“We welcome the verdict of the Highest Court of the Land. It is most unfortunate that the Supreme Court is forced to waste its valuable time hearing frivolous petitions filed with malafide intent when there are innumerable genuine cases that need the Court’s attention. Time we learn to use the privileges of Democracy more responsibly,” Sadhguru posted on X.
Welcoming the verdict, Maa Mayu and Maa Mathi expressed their happiness with the Supreme Court verdict.
“We are extremely happy with the Supreme Court verdict for standing up for our choice to live a monastic life. This trial by our birth family has caused us immense pain, but we are grateful to Isha volunteers and Sadhguru and well-wishers for standing with us,” it stated.
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the case against Isha Foundation, while strongly stating that petitions cannot be used to malign an organization. The Court was responding to a petition that 2 women monks are being held against their will at Isha Foundation.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted disposed of the case after taking into note the statements of the two daughters, aged 39 years and 42 years, are major and that they are voluntarily residing in Ashram, free to move out of Ashram etc.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud observed that while the Court follows due process, the proceedings cannot be to malign people and malign institutions.
The bench said no further directions in the habeas corpus is required, and it should be closed.
“Since both of them are adults and the purpose of habeas corpus was fulfilled, no further directions were needed from the High Court,” said the apex court.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the Isha Foundation said that the Supreme Court has closed the matter.
“The Supreme Court has closed the matter. It means that the Isha Foundation has been held not to be a body which has kept any person captive in its Ashram and the matter has been fully closed,” he said.
Earlier, the top court had transferred to itself the habeas corpus petition from the Madras High Court.
It had restrained the Tamil Nadu police from taking any further action against the Isha Yoga Centre at Coimbatore pursuant to the Madras High Court directions.
The foundation had moved the apex court challenging the order of the Madras High Court directing the police to conduct an inquiry inside the Ashram in a habeas corpus petition. (ANI)
