Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 14 (ANI): Two days after the death of the Baba Siddique, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Milind Deora asserted that the Maharashtra government will leave no stone unturned to maintain peace in the state.
Taking to X on Monday, Milind Deora wrote, “The Maharashtra Government is fully committed to ensuring Mumbai’s safety. Rest assured, Mumbai Police, in coordination with state and central agencies, will leave no stone unturned to maintain peace.”
“Many Mumbaikars are understandably disturbed by the tragic assassination of Baba Siddiqui Ji. Unlike in the recent past, when rogue officers planting bombs to extort industrialists were let off by the then CM and terror attacks and bomb blasts were the norm, this government takes law and order extremely seriously,” he added in the same post.
NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot outside his office in Nirmal Nagar. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds before being rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night.
The death of Siddique has caused a political storm in Maharashtra, prompting opposition leaders to attack Mahayuti government over the law and order situation in the state.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said “Whether it is the arrest of accused in Baba Siddique’s murder or encounter of Akshay Shinde (rape accused). Suspicions are being raised on every act of this govt and this is not a good thing. We are not sure who are these arrested accused. They (Maharashtra govt) are keeping tabs on our movements but are not watching the criminals,”
Expressing grief on the death of Siddique, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, “This horrifying incident exposes the complete collapse of law and order in Maharashtra. The government must take responsibility, and justice must prevail.”
Siddique was a leader in Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Earlier today, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Sanjay Nirupam appealed the opposition parties in Maharashtra to refrain from doing politics over Baba Siddique’s murder, adding that the state government has taken up this case as a ‘challenge’.
Speaking to ANI, Shiv Sena leader Nirupam said, “The way Baba Siddique was murdered is a matter of concern. The government has taken it as a challenge. It is a challenge for the government.”
Nirupam stated that the law and order situation of the state cannot be judged on the basis of a single incident.
“To conclude on the basis of one incident that the entire law and order has collapsed, I think this is an exaggeration. By saying such things, the opposition is doing the politics. At the time of such incidents, one should not do politics but should work and support the government. The Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch of the police are seriously investigating this case,” he added. (ANI)
