Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 2 (ANI): Around 20 members of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha were arrested for allegedly protesting against the Bangladesh cricket team which arrived in the city for the first T20I match with the Indian team on October 6, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
Members of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha took out a rally on Wednesday from its office in Daulatganj Lashkar in the city with black flags and protested against the Bangladesh cricket team. The members chanted slogans against the Bangladesh team and said that they would not tolerate the “atrocities” being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the police arrested the members of Hindu Mahasabha at Maharaj Bada area in the city citing they did not have permission to hold the rally.

City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ashok Jadon told ANI, “Hindu Mahasabha had protested for the match between Bangladesh and India to be held in the city. Earlier, they were provided a platform for the protest and a memo had been taken from them. But they did not have any special permission to hold this rally today. If there is any other activity which disturbs the law and order situation in future, we will take strict action.”
“As of now, we have arrested around 20 people (members of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha). Action will be taken against some vehicles as well which took part in the rally,” he added.
The first T20I match between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to be held at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on October 6.
According to the media advisory issued from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), initially the first T20I between India and Bangladesh was set to be held in Dharamsala on October 6, but due to renovation work being carried out there it was rescheduled for Gwalior.
“The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on 6th October 2024, will now take place in Gwalior owing to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms,” the BCCI said.
“The match in Gwalior marks the inaugural international fixture at the city’s new stadium – Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium – and the first since the historic India-South Africa ODI in 2010, where the legendary Sachin Tendulkar became the first male cricketer to score a double century in ODIs,” the statement read.
Following the completion of the two-match Test series, India and Bangladesh will lock horns with each other in the three-match T20I series with the first match to be played at Gwalior (October 6) followed by the second and third T20I to be played at Delhi (October 9) and Hyderabad (October 12), respectively.
