New Delhi [India], August 31 (ANI): After the Shiromani Akali Dal sent a legal notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) concerning Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming movie ‘Emergency’, Congress leader Udit Raj said on Saturday that the film division should watch the film and responsibly pass it.
Udit Raj also mentioned that the film certification should not pass a film that creates rifts in society.
“Akali Dal has made the demand (seeking a ban on the film), maybe they have some facts with them. But until we have details on the film, we can’t say anything. It is their stand. If they have inputs that screening of the film can adversely affect the situation, they should share it with us too. Otherwise, the Film Division too is responsible for this. They should watch the film responsibly and pass it. I hope they do not pass a film which creates rifts in society,” he said.
“Even articles are written on Emergency; Emergency Day is also observed. Are we able to stop it? This is Freedom of Speech. If we get agitated over the term ‘Emergency’, that is not true democracy. We can’t say on it unless we know about the film or there is a communication from the party,” he added.
The Akali Dal seeks to prevent the film’s release, citing concerns over its portrayal of historical events and figures, particularly those related to the Sikh community.
The notice addresses top officials of the CBFC, requesting an immediate revocation of the certification granted to the film “Emergency,” thereby blocking its release.
Senior Congress leader and advisor to the Telangana Chief Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir met with a Sikh community delegation on Friday. The delegation has demanded a ban on BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming movie ‘Emergency’.
Meanwhile, Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has revealed that her much-anticipated political drama ‘Emergency’ is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film, which delves into the tumultuous period of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s tenure, has encountered unexpected hurdles due to its sensitive subject matter, Kangana revealed in a social media post.
‘Emergency’, a project helmed entirely by Kangana Ranaut, boasts a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.
Based on the period when the emergency was imposed in the country in 1975, it stars Ranaut as the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. (ANI)
