Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], April 2 (ANI): After AAP leader Sanjay Singh was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the excise policy case, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said that injustice was done to the Aam Admi Party leader, adding that Singh’s release will help in revealing the truth in front of the entire nation.
Addressing a press conference, Sharad Pawar said, “Sanjay Singh was arrested and injustice was done to him. He has been released, which is a good thing. Now the truth will come out in front of the country.”
A bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna earlier in the day directed the release of Sanjay Singh on bail during the pendency of trial in the money laundering case relating to irregularities in excise policy.
The Enforcement Directorate informed the apex court that the agency had no objection to Singh getting bail. The court observed that Sanjay Singh had spent six months in jail.
On the Katchatheevu Island issue, NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing on small things and is not serious about taking responsibility for national interests.
“He (PM Modi) was talking about a small island given to Sri Lanka during Indira Gandhi’s time. This matter did not come to the public’s attention before this, On one hand, PM Modi attacked Indira Gandhi, who is not alive today and on the other hand, he did not say anything about the thousands of square kilometres of our land that China took, he ignored it and focused on small things. He does not take the responsibility of looking after national interest seriously,” he said.
Earlier today, weighing in on the Katchatheevu issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Congress party, accusing it of “dividing the country into pieces” during its 60-year-long regime.
PM Modi, who kicked off the BJP’s poll campaign in Uttarakhand today by addressing a rally in Rudrapur, which is part of the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency, alleged the Congress, “can never protect the country’s land.”
“There was an island under the sea in Tamil Nadu, but the Congress gave it to Sri Lanka and now when our fishermen venture into that area by mistake, they are arrested. Can this Congress ever protect our land when it gave our Katchatheevu to another country,” the PM said.
PM Modi on Monday also targeted the DMK for mishandling the Katchatheevu island issue and alleged the ruling party of Tamil Nadu did nothing to safeguard the state’s interests. (ANI)
