Haridwar (Uttarakhand) [India], July 29 (ANI): Security has been beefed up and police personnel have been deployed as the Dal Kanwar yatris will arrive in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on Tuesday.
The police department has been put on alert mode as terror threats have been looming during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.
The Haridwar district administration has completed all the preparations. The state Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, will welcome Kanwar Yatris by showering flowers on them.

“Kanwar Yatra is going well. Till now, over one crore yatris have visited the city. Approximately 8,000 police personnel have been deployed. The parking areas in the city of Haridwar have become full and the temporary parking built in Bairagi Camp has also been occupied. The traffic police have been taking steps to ensure the safety of all. Action has been taken against bikes being brought without silencers,” said Dhiraj Singh Garbyal, District Magistrate Haridwar.

“Tomorrow, CM Dhami will meet Kanwar Yatris. The police have been inspecting the whole situation. CM will meet and then shower flowers on Kanwar yatris. We are checking borders and railway stations. We are trying our best to manage the speed of the vehicles. People from all over the state are welcome here,” said Pramendra Singh Dobal, SSP Haridwar.
The Dak Kanwar Yatra is notably the most challenging pilgrimage. Participants walk continuously from the start until the water consecration of Lord Shiva, completing the journey within 24 hours, earning it the name Dak Bam.
Strict rules govern this yatra. According to scriptures, Shiv bhakts do not stop until they reach Shivdham, continuously walking to complete the journey within 24 hours. This makes the Dak Kanwar Yatra tougher than other Kanwar Yatras. Typically, Shiv bhakts travel in groups, with one Kanwaria running with the Kanwar while others rest in a vehicle. When one Kanwaria tires, another takes over, ensuring the Kanwar is never set down.
Meanwhile, given the increasing crowd of Kanwariyas, the NH-58 Dehradun-Delhi highway has been completely closed from Monday, July 29 to August 2. The roads on both sides of the highway have been reserved for Kanwariyas.
After the Kanwar Yatra started on July 22, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh Police implemented the diversion plan in their respective states. From today, vehicles on the Dehradun-Delhi highway will only go through the diversion routes determined by the police. (ANI)
