New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): The Delhi BJP on Monday intensified their protest on the death of 3 students after the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar was flooded with rainwater on Saturday.
The Delhi Police used water cannons to disperse the BJP workers and leaders who were protesting outside the AAP office against the government on Monday.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also joined the protest along with the party leaders and workers. Women workers showed bangles and clanged utensils as they protested.
“We demand the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. Injustice and death of the students will only stop when Kejriwal resigns from his position,” said one of the protestors.
Anu Arora, a BJP worker, said, “This is a very tragic incident. The Mayor of the area also belongs to AAP. There were no arrangements made. The three children died due to the carelessness and irresponsibility of the AAP party. Arvind Kejriwal has just made fake promises to us of providing free water and electricity, but the reverse has happened. Delhi has been flooded. We demand the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal,” she said.
Meanwhile, the student protests in Karol Bagh continued today.
Speaking to ANI, Sahil, a UPSC aspirant and one of the protestors complained that no officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had visited them.
“We have been sitting here for the last two days but none of the MCD officials came to meet us. We submitted our demands to the DCP, yesterday, seeking information about those who are deceased, those who are admitted to hospitals, copies of the FIR, the action that is to be taken, and compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased and Rs 50 lakhs to those injured but none of it has been addressed,” Sahil said.
Three students died after the basement of the building housing Rau’s Study Circle in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar was flooded following rains.
The students complained that biometric access was mandated to enter libraries, which were located mostly in basements.
“What happened on July 27 was that the biometric got blocked, because of which students got trapped inside when the basement was being flooded with water. This tragedy could have been averted,” Manish Kumar, a student, said while speaking to ANI on Monday.
Manish further said that alternatives to biometrics need to be ensured so that another such tragedy can be averted.
Another student, Punit Singh, complained that there is no way to rescue occupants of the buildings housing the institutes in case of any emergencies.(ANI)
