Uttara Kannada (Karnataka) [India], July 21 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took stock of the situation in Shirur village in Uttara Kannada district where a landslide claimed 10 lives and three persons are still missing.
The search and rescue operations are continuing in the Ankola region in the village. The Chief Minister interacted with the SDRF and NDRF teams which are undertaking the operations.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the personnel highlighting that the task of finding the lives stuck under the soil is very challenging in the continuous torrential rain where one side of the road has been blocked by the landslide and there is a raging Gangavali river on the right side.
Restoration work is underway following a massive landslide that claimed the lives of 10 people on National Highway 66 near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk earlier on July 18.
Four teams are conducting operations using radar technology to locate the three persons who are feared trapped under the landslide. Four other teams are operating from the other side of the river. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who has been stationed in the taluk for many days briefed the Chief Minister on the situation.
The Chief Minister informed the officials about the possibility of a collapse of the land in the area where the operation is underway as the road is filled with mud. He also suggested taking technical assistance from high-level experts on the possible risks and challenges during the operation.
Revenue Minister Krishnabyre Gowda, District In-charge Minister Mankala Vaidya, Former Minister RV Deshpande, MLA Satish Sail, Additional Chief Secretaries to the Government LK Ateeq, Shalini Rajneesh along with senior revenue department officials and staff were present at the spot. (ANI)
