New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Union Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday said that earlier governments lacked the political will to respond to terrorism, with top officials choosing not to act against Pakistan.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, Nadda said, “…It is on record that the senior-most officials of the government, whether it was the Foreign Secretary or the National Security Advisor (NSA), decided not to retaliate against Pakistan. Not to hit back at Pakistan. That is why I say, it was the same police, same army but there was no political will of the leadership then.”
The Union Minister said since the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, stone-pelting incidents have dropped to zero, and local terrorism has almost ended. He added that the average life span of a terrorist in the Valley is now just seven days.
“…After abrogation of Article 370 in J&K, stone pelting incidents reduced to zero from over 2000 between 2010-2014. In the last three years, the Kashmir Valley has not been closed even for a day. Today, local terrorism has ended; only foreign terrorists remain. The average life of a terrorist is only 7 days now. This is a result of zero tolerance towards terrorism,” Nadda said.
Nadda also claimed that a former home minister had once expressed fear about visiting Kashmir. “He said, ‘Mujhe Kashmir jaane mein darr lagta hai’,” Nadda told the House.
“We had lived in darkness in this country,” the Union minister said adding that, “From 2014 to 2025, terror attacks have stopped in the country, except in Jammu & Kashmir.”
“A former Defence Minister had said that the best defence is to not develop the borders. According to him, an undeveloped border is safer than a developed one. This was the mindset we were operating under,” Nadda said.
Nadda also rejected claims that India lacked global support, stating that over 60 heads of state, along with major global platforms like the UN, QUAD, and BRICS, condemned the Pahalgam terror attack.
“They keep saying that no country supported us, but the facts say otherwise. We received 61 messages from heads of state, vice presidents, and presidents condemning the Pahalgam attack. In addition, 35 foreign ministers, 38 parliamentarians, as well as the United Nations Security Council, QUAD, BRICS, and several Central and Asian countries also strongly condemned the attack,” he added.
