New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): After Delhi police recovered the body of a 19-year-old student from Tripura, a neighbour on Monday said that the missing girl’s family had moved to the locality just over two months ago.
Paras Chhikara, the neighbour of deceased Delhi University student Sneha Debnath, who works as a cab driver, narrated his encounter with the girl and informed that she mistakenly boarded his car thinking that it was the cab she had booked, but got off and left in the cab she had actually booked.
“On June 7, I reached home after finishing my duty at around 5:30 AM. I parked my car, and she got into it, thinking that it was the cab she had booked. Her mother, who had come to drop her off downstairs, clicked a picture of my car’s number plate. After realising that this wasn’t her cab, the girl apologised and deboarded. After this, she got into another car that she had booked online and left,” Chhikara told ANI.
“I learned recently that they had moved here only two months ago. However, I saw her for the first time. On the 9th, I dropped her mother and sister to Mehrauli police station and then only I came to know that she was missing,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police informed that a cab driver gave confirmation about dropping the deceased girl at the Signature Bridge. The police said that a note provided by the family of the girl indicated her intentions to jump off the bridge.
“A note provided by the family indicated her intention to jump off from the Signature Bridge. During the police investigation, a cab driver confirmed dropping her at the Signature Bridge. Her close friends stated she was upset for the last few months, ” the police said.
The body of the 19-year-old student of Delhi University Sneha Debnath, who was missing for the past six days, was retrieved from the Yamuna River in the national capital on Sunday, the Tripura Chief Minister’s office said.
Delhi Police said that a female body has been located by a police team near the Signature Bridge.
Tripura CM’s office said that the body was recovered due to the swift and proactive intervention of the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office, along with the cooperation of the Delhi Police.
According to preliminary reports, the student is believed to have taken her own life by jumping into the Yamuna River. However, a full-scale investigation is currently underway to uncover the actual circumstances and reasons behind the tragic incident.
The girl from Sabroom in South Tripura district had reportedly been missing in the national capital.
Sneha’s disappearance under mysterious circumstances in New Delhi prompted swift intervention from the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), and an intensifying search operation led by Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Following this, CM Saha gave necessary instructions to the police to take immediate and appropriate action on the matter.
In a statement posted on its official social media account, the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office stated, “The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the Chief Minister’s Office. Following this, necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action.”
Sneha, a student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, was last in contact with her family on July 7.
On July 9, the Delhi Police Crime Branch, with assistance from the NDRF, conducted an extensive search within a seven-kilometre radius of the Signature Bridge area. However, the search yielded no concrete leads. (ANI)
