New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): Taking a swipe at leaders of the INDIA bloc over their loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rohan Gupta on Saturday “thanked the opposition’s alliance for seeing this defeat as a success”.
Gupta said that even after being in the opposition for 10 years, the number of seats of the Congress has become only 99 from 50, and still they consider it a victory.
“I want to thank the INDI alliance for seeing such a big defeat as a success. Even after being in opposition for 10 years, Congress’ number of seats has become only 99 from 50, still, they consider it a victory. BJP has won more seats than the whole opposition parties, still, they consider it as a victory and I feel this is arrogance. The opposition should ponder their defeat,” the BJP leader said.
Meanwhile, Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India for his third successive term last Sunday at an impressive ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was attended by leaders from India’s neighbourhood and Indian Ocean region.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Narendra Modi, followed by other members of his team of ministers.
Apart from two terms as Prime Minister beginning 2014, Narendra Modi also has the distinction of being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat, with his term spanning from October 2001 to May 2014.
The portfolios were announced on Monday in a press communique by the President’s Secretariat a day after the swearing-in of the council of ministers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The portfolios were allocated on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi led the BJP-led NDA to a third successive victory in the Lok Sabha polls. The BJP won an absolute majority on its own in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, winning 282 and 303 seats, respectively. PM Modi leads an NDA coalition with 292 seats in the Parliament and has laid thrust on making India a developed nation by 2047.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha election the BJP won 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally of 303. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong improvement, winning 99 seats. While the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, the INDIA bloc crossed the 230 mark, posing stiff competition, and defying all predictions. (ANI)
