Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 8 (ANI): Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, which is to be held on Sunday, Madhya Pradesh cabinet minister and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on Saturday said that they would play the third innings just like they played two innings before.
In the General Elections 2024, the BJP did not cross the majority mark, bagging 240 seats. Nonetheless, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the majority mandate, securing 293 seats.
The NDA, led by the BJP, held a meeting of its newly elected MPs at the central hall of Parliament on Friday to choose Narendra Modi as their leader ahead of the oath-taking on Sunday. Modi was elected as Leader of the BJP and Leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party.
Vijayvargiya told reporters, “The credit for running a successful government goes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. After that in the public’s mandate, the BJP alone had a majority, there was an NDA government earlier but the BJP had a clear majority in it. Now, our government which is formed is an NDA government. There was an NDA government earlier and now also there is an NDA government but the BJP seats are a bit less.”
The BJP leader further said that it did not matter at all and they would run their third term of the government as they ran the two terms before.
“We will play the third innings just like we have played two innings and the work that we have done in the interest of the country will be done at a faster pace,” Vijayvargiya added.
Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on June 9, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Friday. Alongside him, members of his council of ministers will also take their oaths on the same day.
Before this announcement, PM-designate Modi met with President Droupadi Murmu and staked his claim to form the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under his leadership.
PM Modi’s leadership of the NDA was formally endorsed, with crucial support from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal (United). The NDA commands a strong position in the Lok Sabha with 293 MPs out of 543. Among these, the BJP holds the largest share with 240 seats. (ANI)
