Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], April 13 (ANI): Punjab Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday slammed the state government amid chaos over his “50 bombs” remark, saying that the “witch hunting” was “not right”. He further said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was creating “drama”.
A team of Punjab Police’s Counterintelligence team reached Partap Singh Bajwa’s residence on today, looking to enquire about the Punjab LoP’s claim about grenades and bombs coming into the state. However the Counter Intelligence official said that Bajwa had not revealed any source to them.
“Media reached here before the Intelligence team. So all this is just drama by the AAP…This government is on the back foot,” Bajwa told reporters.
He said that he was cooperating with the counter intelligence, but refused to reveal his source.
“I have fully cooperated and will fully cooperate (with Counter Intelligence). Our work is to save people and help the Punjab government. However, the witchhunting is not right. I hold my ground that I am not going to reveal my sources…I told her (AIG of Counter Intelligence) whatever I could,” the LoP said.
Bajwa further argued that his statement about several bombs in Punjab was revealed to him by a source who worried for his and his family’s safety.
“I gave a statement to a TV channel that my sources have warned me that several bombs have come to Punjab. 18 bombs have been exploded, and 30-32 bombs are to be used. My source told me that I am in an important position, so I should stay aware since my family has already been a victim of terrorism,” he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that strict action will be taken if his statement’s purpose was to spread “terror”.
He asked the top Congress leadership to clarify the issue of whether they were involved with the enemies of the country. Police, he added, have been instructed to meet Bajwa to ask him to point out places where the bombs have been planted.
“If you have given such a statement to spread terror in Punjab, it is a serious crime, and strict action will be taken. Congress leaders should come out and clarify whether they are involved with enemies of the country. I have given instructions to the police to go and meet Bajwa and ask him to point out the places where bombs have been planted,” Mann said in a video message.
Intensifying his attack, the Punjab CM asked LoP Bajwa about the connections he shared with Pakistan, given the nature of the information he had about the presence of bombs in the state.
Assistant Inspector General of Police of Punjab’s Counter Intelligence unit Ravjot Grewal reached the residence of the LoP earlier today with her team. She said that Bajwa was not able to provide a source regarding his claims that multiple grenades and bombs have come into Punjab.
“Partap Singh Bajwa had made a statement that grenades have come in Punjab, this was a very sensitive information. So we had come here to ask about the source. Me and my team arrived here today because of that. This information is related to National Security so it is very important for us to know what is this source and because our Counter Intelligence does not have any information,” the AIG told reporters.
Bajwa has come under fire for his remarks, where he said that 50 bombs have reached Punjab and 18 of them have already exploded, while the 32 bombs are yet to go of. (ANI)
