New Delhi [India], March 18 (ANI): Condemning the violence which took place in Nagpur on Monday night after a group demanded the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said on Tuesday that he suspects that Opposition was involved in a “conspiracy” regarding the violence.
Speaking outside Parliament, Mhaske alleged that the violence was a “preplanned riot.” The violence took place in Hansapuri on the night of March 17.
“The Opposition leaders in Maharashtra had been saying for the last 3-4 days that there would be riots. How did they predict the future and know about it? This should also be looked into… This looks like a conspiracy of the Opposition,” Mhaske told ANI.
Condemning the incident, he alleged that the mob in the area was deliberately attacking a particular community by checking surnames of people and attacking certain houses.
“The incident of violence in Nagpur is condemnable. A group of certain pelted stones at the houses of a particular community and attacked the police with axes. This was a preplanned riot,” Mhaske said.
“The police have caught some people… The local people say that the mob came from outside and attacked the houses after checking surnames. Action should be taken against those behind this,” he added.
Earlier today, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule alleged that a “conspiracy was hatched” that resulted in violence. He said that he had been living in the city since childhood and people of all religions maintained a feeling of brotherhood.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha, being part of the Opposition alliance in parliament said that focusing on the “stale pages of the past” is distracting people from today’s problems.
“If we keep looking for our heroes and villains in the stale pages of the past, we could not be able to focus on today’s challenges. What are we going to achieve by ruining the peace in the nation?” Jha told ANI.
A curfew has been imposed in multiple areas of Nagpur city under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) following tensions over the demand to remove Aurangzeb’s grave, read an official Maharashtra police notification. According to the official order issued by Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, the restrictions will remain in place until further notice. (ANI)
