Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], March 12 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Jitu Patwari criticised the state budget for financial year 2025-26 presented in the Assembly on Wednesday, saying it is not a budget but a document to put the state in debt and corruption.
In a long post shared on X, the Congress leader accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government of using the budget as a tool to increase debt, institutionalize commission and strengthen corruption.
“This is not a budget, but a document to deep Madhya Pradesh in debt/corruption. The BJP government has once again given a deceptive budget to the people of Madhya Pradesh. There is no concrete plan for development in this budget, rather it has been prepared to increase debt, institutionalize commission and strengthen corruption. This budget exposes the failures and anti-people policies of the BJP government. With this budget, the state government has once again increased the debt limit. The state is already deep in heavy debt, but the government is only concerned about corruption and commission. The loan money is getting in the pockets of BJP leaders and contractors instead of the welfare of the people,” Patwari said in the post.
The BJP government promised 3 lakh jobs in 39 new industrial areas, but the truth is that thousands of posts are lying vacant in government departments. Every year lakhs of youth wait for government jobs, but the government has no intention to recruit them. It is the same false promise that is made in every budget, but is never fulfilled, the congress leader wrote.
He further said, “The government is saying that 400 MBBS seats will be increased and 11 new Ayurvedic colleges will be opened. But the truth is that government medical colleges already do not have enough resources and doctors. Medical education in the state has been badly affected due to the Vyapam scam. Even today, patients have to wander from door to door for treatment in government hospitals, but the government is only making hollow announcements.”
The Congress leader further stressed that women beneficiaries of Ladli Behna Yojana were cheated, the government stuck at giving Rs 1250 a month instead of fulfilling a promise of Rs 3000 a month.
“During the assembly elections, the BJP government had promised to give Rs 3000 a month to the Ladli Behnas in the state. But as soon as it came to power, the BJP neglected it. Not only was the promise broken, but also the names of over 4 lakh women were excluded from the scheme. The real face of the BJP government has now come before the public,” Patwari stated in the post.
The government is claiming that in the next five years, 1 lakh kilometers of roads will be built and 500 railway over bridges and flyovers will be built. But the reality is that only corruption is going on in the name of roads in rural areas. Roads are being built on paper for commission and the constructed roads are being repaired only on paper. The game of corruption has pushed the state backwards, he added.
Highlighting about farmers, the Congress leader mentioned, “There is no relief for farmers in the budget. Today, farmers cannot run their family without wheat procurement at Rs 3000 a quintal, paddy at Rs 3100 per quintal and soybean at Rs 6000 a quintal, but the government did not pay any attention to the matter. Announcements like Fasal Bima Yojana, CM Kisan Kalyan Yojana are limited to papers only. Farmers are continuously sinking in debt, but the BJP government is not concerned about them.”
“This budget has not been brought for the public, but to increase the corruption of the BJP. This is a budget of loans and commissions, in which the common people, farmers, youth and women have been cheated. Congress will fight against this anti-people government at every level and will raise the voice of the people,” he added in the post.
Notably, Deputy CM and Finance Minister Jagdish Devda presented the state budget of Rs 4,21,032 crores in the state assembly on Wednesday. The budget amount of this year is around 15 percent more than that of the previous year budget which was Rs 3.65 lakh crores. (ANI)
