itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], June 2 (ANI): After the Bharatiya Janata Party retained power in Arunachal Pradesh after registering a huge victory in the assembly elections, Chief Minister Pema Khandu termed it a “historic day” and said that it shows “pro-incumbency” for the state government.
The Arunachal Pradesh CM thanked the people of the state and said they have voted for the development that has taken place in the state under BJP.
Speaking to ANI, Pema Khandu said, “This is a historic day for Arunachal Pradesh, especially for the BJP. The party has set a new record in these Assembly elections. In 2019, we won 41 seats and in 2024 we have won 46 seats.”
“Usually, we see anti-incumbency for the government, but in BJP there is pro-incumbency. I would like to thank the people of the state. People have voted for the development in the state under BJP,” he added.
According to the Election Commission of India, BJP won 46 out of 60 seats in Arunachal Pradesh. National People Party (NPEP) won 5 seats, Nationalist Congress Party won 3 seats and the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won 2 seats. Congress party could only win one seat.
Independent candidate Wanglam Sawin has won the Khonsa seat.
Notably, the BJP had already won 10 seats unopposed in Arunachal. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already won their respective seats.
CM Khandu further said after the Lok Sabha elections are completed on June 4, all winning candidates and other BJP leaders will reach Itanagar.
He also affirmed confidence of winning both Lok Sabha seats in the state.
“On 4th June, Lok Sabha elections counting will be held. After that, all winning candidates will reach here in Itanagar. Senior leaders from Delhi can also come. After the formalities of the party, we will stake our claim to form the new government…For the first time the country has got a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi…We are certain that we will win both the Lok Sabha seats of the state,” he stated.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 41 seats in Arunachal Pradesh.
People were seen celebrating outside the BJP office in Itanagar after the trends showed that BJP will retain power in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also thanked the people of Arunachal Pradesh for the “unequivocal mandate” and said BJP will keep working for the people. He also thanked the party workers for their hard work through the election campaign.
“Thank you Arunachal Pradesh! The people of this wonderful state have given an unequivocal mandate to the politics of development. My gratitude to them for reposing their faith in BJP yet again. Our Party will keep working with even greater vigour for the state’s growth,” PM Modi posted on X.
“I would like to appreciate the hard work of the exceptional BJP Arunachal Pradesh Karyakartas through the election campaign. It is commendable how they went across the state and connected with the people,” he said in a subsequent post. (ANI)
