Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 31 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) Rajya Sabha MP, AA Rahim said on Friday that the current actions by Israel over Rafah are unforgivable atrocities and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will intensify the Palestine solidarity campaign.
Rahim is also serving as the All India president of the DYFI.
“Israel’s cruelty continues unabated. The current actions are unforgivable atrocities. Youth and students are at the forefront of showing solidarity with Palestine. DYFI will intensify the Palestine solidarity campaign. The RSS campaign, ‘India Stands with Israel,’ is rejoicing in the massacre of children. DYFI’s campaign will also expose this,” Rahim said.
“The silence of the Congress on this issue is surprising. It is a time for everyone to unite beyond political differences. DYFI welcomes the stance of Malayalees at the Cannes Film Festival,” he added.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes across Gaza hammered Hamas, hitting more than 50 terror facilities in the last day, the Israel Defence Forces said on Thursday.
The strikes on the Rafah refugee camp occurred after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to halt its operation in Rafah, triggering international outrage.
At least 45 people were killed and 200 others were injured after the Israeli strike hit a camp for displaced people on May 26, CNN reported, according to the government media office in Gaza.
India expressed ‘deep concerns’ about Israeli strikes on the refugee camps in Rafah and emphasised that New Delhi has consistently called for the protection of the civilian population and respect for international humanitarian law, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
“The heartbreaking loss of civilian lives in the displacement camp in Rafah is a matter of deep concern. We have consistently called for the protection of the civilian population and respect for international humanitarian law in the ongoing conflict,” MEA said referring to the air strikes by Israel on refugee camp in Gaza’s Rafah.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that India was one of the first countries to recognise the state of Palestine in the late 1980s and has supported a two-state solution within recognised and mutually agreed borders, living side by side with Israel in peace. (ANI)
