Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 10 (ANI): Tripura State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chaudhuri on Monday said that 2,650 polling stations have been identified and around 55 lakh ballot papers are to be printed for three-tier panchayat polls in Tripura.
The Tripura State Election Commissioner also said that approximately 12,95,086 voters across 35 blocks are eligible to vote in the upcoming panchayat polls.
Chaudhuri also said that the panchayat elections are going to be held in the last part of July or the first part of August as by August the present term (of the Panchayat) will be complete.
“As per the draft electoral rolls, we have about 12 lakh 95 thousand and 86 voters in 35 blocks. We have also identified 2650 polling stations…Around 55 lakh ballot papers are to be printed… 10 to 12 days will be required for printing,” he said.
He also said the voter list for the panchayat elections will be finalized by June 24. The Tripura State Election Commission, in consultation with the state government, will then decide on the date of the panchayat polls, and announce it once approved.
“The Panchayat election is to be held by the first week of August because by the first week of August, the present term (of the Panchayat) will be complete. As a preparatory step, we have already finalised the list of polling stations now we have published the draft voter list. This (referring to the voter list) is going to be finalised by June 24. After that, we will take up the file with the state government because as per law Commission has to decide the date of the poll in consultation with the state government. We are proposing it (the date of the poll) in the last part of July or the first part of August. As per approval accorded by the state government, we will announce it later on,” Choudhury told ANI.
He added, “After the finalisation of the (panchayat polls) date, we will hold an election meeting with the security personnel.”
According to the SEC, the total numbers of seats in the panchayats stand at 6,370, in Panchayat samiti 423 seats are there, and the number of zila parishad is 116. (ANI)
