Crossrail’s financial woes threaten rail network –

The financial fallout caused by delays to Transport for London’s flagship Crossrail project will “inevitably” lead to a wave of further disruption on the capital’s over-stretched transport networks, unions have warned. 

The transport authority, which answers to London mayor Sadiq Khan, said it would be slashing back office costs by 30pc in the next five years in a move that is expected to result in thousands of job losses. 

Manuel Cortes, head of the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association, one of several unions representing TfL workers, said: “This is not something we will take lying down, and as things stand industrial action looks inevitable.”
