Galliford Try books another £20m hit on costly Aberdeen bypass project

Construction giant Galliford Try has been forced to flag another £20m hit on the hamstrung Aberdeen Bypass project after tough weather conditions and more complex than expected repairs forced it to delay completion until December.

The extra costs take Galliford’s total bill for the contract to £143m, though it hopes to claw some of that back in compensation from Transport Scotland, which commissioned the road.

The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, as it is officially known, was contracted to a joint venture between Galliford, Balfour Beatty and Carillion, the latter of which plunged into liquidation in January – leaving its partners to pick up the pieces.
