Huda Beauty claims sawn-off water bottle can produce bouncy curls just as good at the Dyson Airwrap – but for £400 …

THE new Dyson Airwrap might be have been years in the making – and the best way to create soft curls – but at nearly £400 it’s way out of most people’s budgets.

But now beauty blogger Huda Kattan, who is also known as Huda Beauty, has worked out you can create exactly the same looking hair for pennies.

Huda explained how it was very easy to create near identical locks

She unveiled the amazing trick on her Instagram page – and all you need is a hairdryer, an old water bottle… and (somewhat surprisingly) a saw.

Huda discovered you can get soft curls which are virtually identical to those created using a Dyson Airwarp by popping your hair into a plastic water bottle and briefly heating it with a hairdryer.

It doesn’t use Dyson’s state-of-the-art technology, which has been in development for six years and uses air instead of heat to curl hair,  but it is much, much cheaper.

And the results are amazing. Here’s a handy guide to help:

Step one: get a recycled bottle

This is the easy part – all you need is an old water bottle – make sure it’s big enough to fit all your hair in.

Step two: wipe it with tissue

You don’t want to get your hair all grimy.

Step three: cut the top section of the bottle

Using a saw (and be careful) cut the bottle in half.

Step four: put your hair in the bottle

And turn the hairdryer on for just a few seconds

Step five: put the hairdryer to it

Afterwards you should have Dyson Airwrap-esque waves (without breaking the bank).

Step six: curly locks!

Your hair should now be perfectly curled.

What is the Dyson Airwrap styler?

The Airwrap is described by Dyson as: “A styling tool engineered to create curls, waves and smooth blow dries without extreme heat.”

It aims to be a versatile tool which styles hair without damaging it by excessive heat.

There are three different kits, the Complete, the Smooth + Control and the Volume + Shape.

The Complete is for multiple hair types, the Smooth + Control is for ‘unruly, frizz-prone hair’, and the Volume + Shape is for ‘limp, flat hair’.

The wand uses jets of air to achieve the finished look, using Dyson’s digital motor to creat what they’ve called the Coanda effect.

Dyson said: “The Coanda effect occurs when a high-speed jet of air flows across a surface and, due to differences in pressure, the air flow attaches itself to the surface.

“This attracts, wraps and curls the air around the barrel.

“Taking advantage of this principle Dyson’s team of aerodynamicists created a way to style hair using only air combined with heat.

The result, whether you choose to curl, wave, smooth or rough dry your hair, creates a natural look with a sleek finish, helping prevent extreme heat damage.”

The Airwand, which can also style hair from wet to dry, has been in development for the past six years with £24million invested into research and development.

There were 642 prototypes, and 230 engineers worked on the product.

James Dyson, founder and chairman, said: “Harnessing the power of Dyson’s digital motor we have engineered a unique styling tool which prevents extreme heat damage when styling.”
