Strictly Come Dancing star Danny John-Jules’ wife has hit out at the BBC for trying to “destroy him” in an amazing outburst.
Petula Langlais, who has two children with the Red Dwarf actor and has been with him for 17 years, said she was in “shock” at Strictly bosses “throwing Danny under that bus”.
The Daily Mirror exclusively revealed how his dance partner Amy Dowden fled training in tears after a massive row earlier this week, with the dancer saying: “I can’t go on with him any more.”
She sobbed to BBC producers that she couldn’t be paired with the former Red Dwarf actor anymore after a row in the dance studio – before later reconciling with the actor.
But Petula, who has been pictured cheering Danny on with her children Dante and Danae, in the Strictly studios, feels her husband has been stitched up.
Petula, who lives in a £1million Notting Hill home with the star, tweeted yesterday: “Wow @bbcstrictlyPR @bbcstrictly are really throwing #Dannyjohnjules under that bus!… I’m in shock… why are you trying to destroy him?”
We told yesterday how BBC bosses told Danny he has to be “mindful of his behaviour moving forward” after their row in training.
Yesterday sources told the Mirror how the row was over footwork for this weekend’s Samba – and they hit back at claims he was a bully.
The insider said: “He is a difficult man but he is not a bully. He is exhausting to be around but never swears or offends on purpose.
“She has never felt threatened but has been left upset by him a number of times.
“Nothing seems to register with him.
“The disagreement was over footwork. She was going ‘back 1 ,2, 3, 4’ and he was not listening and just talking over her.
She said she can’t take this any more and walked out. She wasn’t in tears around him but then started crying as soon as she stepped out of the door.”
Last night the pair put on another united front on spin-off show It Takes Two in a pre-recorded segment.
Amy said: “Things did get a little intense the other day in rehearsals… But do you know what we took a half an hour break and got straight to it.
“I’ve never felt threatened or bullied by Danny. I really want to get this man to Blackpool, and then to the final.”
And Danny added: “Well, all I can tell you is that the only reason I’m here, this far, is because of Amy and I would never bite the hand that feeds me.
“I’m more than happy; it’s probably the best dancing we have done in the last couple of days since I have been on the show.

“And I’m just happy to go along, she is the boss, she wears the pants. Why would I argue with a Welsh woman.”
Today Danny also hit back on Twitter, saying: “My conscience has never been clearer.”
He also compared himself to King Kong grabbing a screaming girl in a bizarre Twitter post.
Death in Paradise star Danny has been one of the favourites to win the show since week one.
Last weekend he and Amy finished bottom of the leaderboard but dodged the dance-off which resulted in Dr Ranj Singh and Janette Manrara go out.
