It’s a truth universally known that all is fair in love and war, but what about in dancing? Well, it turns out the ballroom is as ruthless as it gets – especially on Strictly Come Dancing.
Ahead of this year’s first live show, a one-off special taking fans behind-the-scenes of Strictly, is set to air over the weekend, giving viewers a glimpse of the show’s fabled ‘chemistry circle’.
The chemistry circle, which is scrutinised by Strictly bosses, sees the celebrities and professional dancers chop and change partners while dancing in a bid to nail the perfect pairing.
And although he ended up winning the show with Stacey Dooley, Kevin Clifton has revealed that one of his fellow pros tried to poach the journalist from under his nose during a break from the high-stakes circle.
“Last year with Stacey in the salsa circle, I was going for it – bang, bang, bang – overdoing it,” Kevin admitted (via The Sun).
“At one point we were on a coffee break and AJ [Pritchard] interrupted us in the middle of us talking and took her away, because he wanted to get to know and see what she was about.”
In a nod to AJ’s brother Curtis, Kevin quipped: “I was like, ‘It’s not Love Island, mate!'”
Fortunately for Kevin, we have an inkling there were no scandals in this year’s chemistry circle – not involving him, anyway – as the 2018 champion has been paired with Anneka Rice. Sorry, Anneka.
