Riverdale star Luke Perry is currently under observation in hospital after reportedly suffering a stroke.

A publicist for the actor has confirmed that Perry is in hospital, telling Time and E! News that he is in hospital and under observation, but didn’t confirm why he was admitted to hospital in the first place.

The actor’s condition is currently unknown, and Digital Spy has reached out to Perry’s reps for comment.

Perry is currently starring as Archie Andrews’ dad Fred in The CW series Riverdale, and before that he was best known for his role as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210.

His other roles include parts in TV series Body of Proof and HBO’s Oz, while he also starred in The Fifth Element and voiced roles in cartoon series The Incredible Hulk and Mortal Kombat too.

Since news of his hospitalisation broke, several of Perry’s friends and fans have been sharing well-wishes for the actor, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie) co-star Kristy Swanson, actress and comedian Yvette Nicole Brown and Lou Diamond Phillips.

“I just heard the frightening news about my dear old friend Luke Perry having a massive stroke,” Kristy tweeted. “Luke honey I am praying so hard for you right now, I love you so much, and by God’s Grace you will get through this. Please pray for Luke.”

The news comes a few weeks after it was confirmed that Beverly Hills, 90210 was returning for a revival series (that isn’t actually a revival), with original star Tori Spelling confirming that Perry’s role on Riverdale meant he wouldn’t be able to commit to the series full-time, but would “do as many [episodes] as he can do”.

Riverdale airs on The CW in the US, and on Netflix in the UK.
