Get stuffed, say parents caught up in chaos over Build-A-Bear offer

A toy shop chain has been forced to abandon a discount on teddy bears after huge queues turned violent.

Parents queued for hours at Build-A-Bear stores to buy customised stuffed toys, which usually cost up to £52, at a price discounted to their child’s age.

Police were called to the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds after customers became restless in queues described as “about a mile long”.

There were reports of fighting at some shops, and in Gateshead customers complained of waiting for more than four and a half hours before being turned away without a toy. Shops in Birmingham, Sheffield, Telford, and Basingstoke had to shut early because they could not cope with the crowds.
