North Korea test-fired more short-range missiles this morning, soon after encouraging the United States to restart peace talks later this month.

The two missiles, not yet identified by the foreign military powers that track such activity, were fired from South Pyongan province in the west of the country at 6.53am and 7.12am. They flew east, 330km across the peninsula from a launch site close to the city of Kaechon and appear to have landed harmlessly in the Sea of Japan.

There have been eight missile tests since July, a clear effort to put pressure on President Trump to make concessions in the deadlocked negotiations over North Korean nuclear disarmament.

There have been three summit meetings between Mr Trump and Kim Jong-un since last year.
